On 14 – 15 September 2015 a seminar on presenting amendments to the Latvian legislation regarding the police short term detention centers was organized in Riga.

The pre-defined Project LV08/3 „Improving the standard of Latvian State police detention centres, including activities aimed at improving infrastructure, reducing / abolishing the current practice of administrative detention, changing the practice of returning remand prisoners for further investigation, ensuring adequate training for staff working at police detention facilities” is launched

On 6 May 2014 the Ministry of Justice of Latvia as the Programme LV08 „Reform of the Latvian Correctional services and Police Detention Centres” Operator, Ministry of Interior of Latvia as the National Programme Partner and the State Police of Latvia as the Project Promoter have signed the Project Contract on implementation of the Project LV08/3.

The State Police of Latvia as a Project Promoter in the framework of the Programme LV08 “Reform of the Latvian Correctional Services and Police Detention Centers” of the Norwegian Financial Mechanism will implement the pre-defined project “Improving the Standard of Latvian State Police detention centres, including activities aimed at improving infrastructure, reducing/abolishing the current practice of administrative detention, changing the practice or returning remand prisoners for further investigation, ensuring adequate training for staff working at police detention facilities”.
