A cycle of Advisory Council’s meetings about Electronic monitoring were carried out print

A cycle of Advisory Council’s meetings were carried out during the period of 19.09.2014. to 28.11.2014. These meetings were dedicated to implementation of Electronic monitoring in Latvia.

There were held six regional meetings of Advisory Council: in Latgale region (Rezekne), Vidzeme region (Valmiera), Riga region (Sigulda), Kurzeme region (Liepaja) and Zemgale region (Jelgava), as well as the Advisory Council meeting in Riga. These meetings were attended by partners of State probation service in the implementation of criminal justice. Those were representatives of courts, prosecutors, police and local government institutions.

The task of these Advisory Council meetings was to assess the current situation, to find a common approach to implementation of electronic monitoring, to provide link of information among services, public authorities, local government and other institutions, as well as to enhance cooperation and to inform about the current work of State probation service in field of introduction of electronic monitoring system in Latvia. Head of State probation service M.Papsujevičs and representatives of Ministry of Justice and Prison Administration made presentations on these issues.

The attendees of the Advisory Council’s meetings were informed about current amendments in laws and regulations, as well as the current policy guidelines of criminal sanctions. The institutions discussed such important issues as perspectives of cooperation and the implementation of electronic monitoring.
